Financial Planning
Whether it is owning your own home, funding your children’s education, or working towards an ideal retirement, having a financial plan is a vital part of working towards your goals. An effective plan goes beyond the realm of saving, budgeting, and investing. It also considers other elements of your financial picture, including establishing an emergency fund, paying off debt, addressing areas of risk, understanding the impact of taxes, retirement planning, estate planning, and much more.
Understanding the role a financial plan has in meeting your short, intermediate, and long-term financial aspirations, will help put you in the driver’s seat for your financial future.
Our Approach to Financial Planning
- Discovering You: Our process begins with an interactive discovery meeting designed to learn about you, your goals and your expectations. If you have worked with a financial advisor in the past, it helps us understand what you liked in their process and what you did not like. This is also an opportunity to ask us questions to learn about us, how we operate, to share our story, and determine if there is a good mutual fit for us to build an on-going relationship together.
- Strategy Planning: Once we learn who you are, we will start developing a plan customized for you. Through our strategy-building process, we will create a plan to address your short, intermediate and long-time financial goals.
- Recommendations / Implementation: For each client we are blessed to work with, the implementation of your custom plan may be as simple as looking at how to manage retirement, and non-retirement, assets through investments appropriate for you based on your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. Or it may involve additional investments when looking at ways to address risk, creating consistent streams of income in retirement, and even looking at areas within your plan possibly requiring a referral to an additional professional to assist with items such as taxes, the creation of a Will / Trust or other needs. No matter what is required for next steps we will do our best to be transparent and communicate everything from costs and fees associated with the implementation of your plan. We understand how confusing and overwhelming financial planning can be. The older we get the larger this area of our lives becomes. Before implementing anything, rest assured we will take the time to educate and mentor you on the details of your custom plan and answer all your questions.
- Review and Support: Through the entire process we want you to feel you are in the driver’s seat. Our goal is to honor you, your goals and every dollar you have earned. How often we meet is up to you. Some clients, especially if they are new to this process, may want to meet every few months in the beginning as we build the relationship and learn to trust each other. Others may be more comfortable with once or twice a year to do in depth reviews as well as touch on things like the overall markets, the economy, etc. While we always want you to feel in control of everything, we also recognize the challenge that comes with a new relationship and handing over some of the control. By establishing an open line of communication for all of us to be in contact with one another frequently it will help build the relationship and may ease some of the initial stress some may experience in the beginning. As changes in your life happen, we will review how they may impact your various financial goals. If needed, we will update your plan accordingly to account for those life changes. Through it all our administrative support team will help answer any of your questions, ensure you have access to your online client portal, process any contributions or distributions and be available for any account updates you need us to make.
